Scholarship Rules

2015 Ohio PHCC Educational Foundation Scholarship Rules

1. Scholarship awards in the amounts of $500 (or more each year as funds become available) to those who desire to further their education.

2. Applicants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • An Ohio resident pursuing a career related to the mechanical trades
  • Academic performance based on high school GPA (and SAT scores if available)
  • Recommendations from teacher / instructors
  • Evidence of interest in the mechanical trades – i.e., volunteer, after school employment, or training programs
  • Personal interview with applicants

3. Scholarship funds may be used only to defray the recipients tuition or books unless otherwise specified in the award by this Foundation.

4. Applicant must write a letter including the following personal data:

  1. Family size
  2. Need of scholarship monies
  3. Plans for future career
  4. Any knowledge of and/or working experience with plumbing, heating or cooling.

5. High school applicant must enclose

  1. A letter of recommendation from a principal or authorized member of the high school staff.
  2. A complete transcript reflecting eight semesters of grades, college entrance exam scores and cumulative GPA

6. College applicant must include

  1. letter of recommendation from Dean of the college or Advisor
  2. official transcript of grades and cumulative GPA.

7. Applicant must enclose a complete activity form using the sample copy as a guideline for a format

8. All applications must be supported by a PHCC member sponsor who may be a relative but may not include parents, guardian or spouse.

9. The winner will be notified in writing and must submit additional information requested by the deadline provided in the notice.

10. The scholarship must be used within the following school year. The check will be made payable to the school and the recipient together. The educational institution must maintain a regular faculty and curriculum with a regularly enrolled body of students in attendance and may include a certified Joint Vocational School specifically designed for mechanical trade education.

11. The following grading factors will be used:

  1. 45% ability (grades, work performance and GPA)
  2. 25% need (financial)
  3. 15% social responsibility (community, civic and work activities)
  4. 15% social responsibility (student activities)

The scholarship committee shall have the final decision in awarding the scholarships. No applications will be accepted after July 15, 2014 for the 2014-2015 school year.
